Sello shopping center has long been working on studying and reducing the environmental impact of the shopping center property. Energy savings, renewable energy and carbon-neutral waste management have significantly reduced Sello’s carbon dioxide emissions. The carbon footprint of the property’s activities is also affected by the movement of workers to their workplace. Most of the employees use public transport, because they have good connections to Sello, but for some people the car is still a necessary means of transport.
In the end of 2019, the mall, for the first time, offset the rest of its carbon footprint through a Gold Standard certified emission reduction project with Nordic Offset, which made Sello a fully carbon neutral shopping center property. Emissions reductions were focused on an efficient household wood stove project in Kenya that reduces deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions and improves indoor air quality and health.
